Denote something of a different kind
A hidden self lost within
Free to roam
Unconscious of sin
How does one escape themselves
When deep within
Lies someone else
A stranger
Yet a part of you
Another being, which makes you two
Behind the dark
I hear your cries
Beyond it all
I hear your call
Torn between my frame of mind
I don't know where to turn it all
Whats more than lonely
But an empty space
An unknown indifference
Creates a void
Strive to find
Something of a different kind
Who am I
But not me
Am I you
Is there we
Maybe to discover you
First I must discover me!

In the book Glass by Ellen Hopkins Kristina is a nice girl with a baby named Hunter but her other personality "Bree" causes her to be addicted to Crystal Meth and is much more controlling. Bree starts to not like Kristina anymore so Kristina has a hard time controlling the power of Bree. She soons starts to neglect her baby Hunter and cannot stop getting high. It soon starts to become a need for her such as she cant go a day without doing it therefore she doesnt sleep at night well. Doing drugs can cause you to have stress, not sleep, and lose lots of weight making you have health issues. Also, it causes you to start pushing away from your family and be more demanding just like Bree. Her spilt personality was developed by being exposed to the drug and then becoming addicted to it. Bree talkes to her in her head while she is being Kristina causing her to be confused and make bad decisions. This disorder can be very hard to control and sometimes you don't know when you are the other person. This is also known as dissociative identity disorder. It can not be diagnosed so they have interviews and ask questions looking for the symptoms. Some symptoms are acting two different ways, consfusion, and many others.

MissBritt12,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate all the work you have put into your blog thus far, you're doing a great job. The question I have for you is (and maybe I missed it in your post)is Kristina ever diagnosed by a doctor in the book? I'm asking because I've said we aren't supposed to diagnosis anyone or anything, but I can't help but wonder if Kristina is suffering from Schizophrenia. Have you looked up information about that on Teen Health? Let me know what you think.
Thanks!
Ms. C
Well on the website it said that it cannot be diagnosed so she wasn't but she was exposed to Meth and got very addicted which caused a voice inside herself to tell her she needs to do it. So it could be schizophrenia.
ReplyDeleteThe story about Kristina is scary. The thought that you can have a split personality that can truly start taking over your life is horrible. I hope that people who read your blog or the book Glass with come to see how much drugs can effect someone, even so much as to give you another personality. What I’m wondering is that if Kristina finds a way to stop doing drugs, will her second personality, Bree, go away?
